When κεῖμαι is used of offerings or objects in a religious/temple context, it signifies ritual placement as a dedicated possession of the deity, often stored in the θησαυρός (temple treasury). This usage conveys not just physical location but sacral status—what is laid up is now set apart, permanently deposited, and inviolably consecrated to divine service or memory.

κεῖται ἐν θησαυρῷ – “it is laid up in the treasury” (Hdt. 1.51)

He is not here: for he was raised, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
LITV Translation:
He is not here, for He was raised, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord was lying.
