Joel 2:28
נבאו - brought into prophesying
And he has become, the behind one, an upright one! I am pouring forth the self eternal spirit of myself upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters have been brought into prophesying,6 your elder ones, their inner selves are dreaming dreams, your selected young men, they are seeing inner visions!Footnote:
Joe. 2:28 | On the so-called “active” Niphal of ונבאו (“and they shall prophesy”): the Niphal stem in Biblical Hebrew, while often described as passive, frequently functions in a middle-voice capacity, in which the subject participates in an action that is initiated by an external source. In prophetic contexts, this nuance is essential: ונבאו does not simply mean “prophecy will happen to them” (pure passive) nor “they will prophesy” (simple active), but “they will be brought into the state of prophesying and speak from within it.” The action is passive in initiation (divine causation), active in performance (the prophet utters the words), and reflexive in experience (the act reshapes the prophet). Within an Aonic framework, this matches the recursive causality of the gōrāl (“lot”): the prophet, like the lot, is “caused to be cast” into the Fold of time, becomes an active agent within the loop, and returns transformed by the very utterance they inhabit.
