Joel 3:2
Footnote:
Joe. 3:2 | Prior translations try to use the conjunction "and" as identifying one with the other: "on behalf of my people and my heritage Israel" (ESV) Perhaps they are trying to smash all the words into one and the same thing. The KJV sneaks in an extra "for": "for my people and for my heritage Israel," The NASB has: "On behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel," The NET decided to just shamelessly cheat and add the words "who are": "concerning my people Israel who are my inheritance" Everywhere in the Torah, the Inheritance is not spoken of as Israel, but to Israel, and specifically to the sons of Israel: בני ישראל איש נחלתו "sons of Israel, each man the inheritance of himself" (Numbers 32:18) Scriptures like Psalm 28:9 do not clearly define Israel as an inheritence itself: הושיעה את עמך וברך את נחלתך "Deliver the self eternal People of yourself, and bless the self eternal inheritance of yourself!" Israel is described as a son: כה אמר יהוה בני בכרי ישראל thus he spoke, HE IS, 'my son, my first born, Israel" In Joshua 13:33: הוא נחלתם "himself is the inheritance of themselves" |
